Yes. We have dedicated convex sharpening equipment that preserves the curved hamaguri edge. Brands like Mizutani, Kasho, Joewell, Yasaka, and Hikari are serviced regularly. Many sharpeners turn convex into bevel without realising. We do not.

The lower price covers German-style beveled edges, which are simpler to sharpen on flat equipment. The higher price covers convex (Japanese-style) edges, which require specialist convex wheels and significantly more setup time per scissor. The right service depends on the edge style of your scissors, not the brand alone.

No. Professional sharpening removes only the metal needed to restore the edge. Most premium scissors can be sharpened 30-50 times over their life without measurable shortening of the blade. Damage usually comes from drops, dishwashers, or untrained sharpeners using flat wheels on convex blades.

Not directly. We are a national mail-in service from Gunning, NSW. The benefit is consistent quality regardless of where you are in Australia, with 2-3 day workshop turnaround. Many salons send a batch every quarter and rotate working scissors against newly returned ones.

How do I post hairdressing scissors safely?

Accepted Answer

Close the blades, secure with a rubber band, wrap the tips in cardboard or bubble wrap, and use a rigid box. Soft mailers do not protect well and scissors can puncture them in transit. Include your name, salon, phone number, and a note on what you would like done.
